How does the GGD choose vaccination locations?

Accepted Answer

We choose locations that are easy to reach and safe for vaccinations. The buildings must have enough space and be available for a short period of time. We also look at the costs, because the locations are temporary. We try to spread the vaccination locations so that as many people as possible have one nearby.

Do you get an invitation with a location that is not convenient for you? Then you can choose another location or date at planjeprik.nl or by calling 0800-7070 (on weekdays from 09:00 to 17:00).

Please note: parking at the vaccination location is not arranged by the GGD. This is arranged by the owner or the municipality.

Who can get the coronavirus vaccination?

Accepted Answer

Do you have a referral from your general practitioner? If so, you can book an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine. You can call 0800-7070 to do this. You will need your citizen service number.

Autumn vaccination round 2026

A new round of COVID-19 vaccinations will begin this autumn. People who are at risk of becoming seriously ill from COVID-19 will be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine again. This also applies to healthcare workers who care for these people. Vaccinations will be available from 21 September to 27 November. You can book an appointment online from 25 August. The following groups are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine this year:

people aged 70 and older;

people aged 50 to 69 with one or more medical conditions who have a bigger risk of becoming seriously ill with COVID-19;

adults and children from high-risk medical groups (for example, people with a severe immune disorder and nursing home residents);

healthcare workers who have direct contact with vulnerable patients, in order to protect these patients.

Are coronavirus vaccinations done every autumn, like flu jabs?

The minister has decided that COVID-19 vaccinations will be available in the fall of 2026. The vaccination round will be 21 September to 27 November.

Do you have a referral from a treating doctor? Then you can get a coronavirus vaccination any time of the year. Do you want to make an appointment? Call 0800-7070. You can do this from 21 September to 27 November. You can make an appointment on this website from 25 August.

How can I get a coronavirus vaccination with a protein-based vaccine?

Some people cannot or do not want to receive an mRNA vaccine for medical reasons. For them, a protein-based vaccine will be available. Does this apply to you, and would you like to get the protein-based vaccine? Then you can make an appointment by phone at 0800-7070 if you have a referral from a treating doctor. Question 8

I cannot go to the GGD vaccination location myself. What should I do?

Accepted Answer

Do you have a serious illness, condition, or disability, and you cannot go to the GGD location for your COVID-19 vaccination, even with help from others? Then call 0800-7070 and choose option 2. A GGD worker will look for a solution with you.

In special cases, you can get the COVID-19 vaccination at home.

Examples of when a home vaccination might be possible:

- You always need care and help, day and night.- You cannot walk or travel by yourself or with help from others. - You get confused or upset from travel or too many sounds and lights (for example, if you have severe dementia or autism). - You are very ill or must stay in bed. - You have an indication for long-term care with much nursing and support (for example, care profiles VV5, VV6, or VV7).

These are only examples. They are not fixed rules.

Can I get the coronavirus vaccination without making an appointment?

No. You can only get the coronavirus vaccination if you make an appointment. Please note: At the moment, you can only make an appointment for the coronavirus vaccination if you have a referral from a treating doctor.

Yes, you can. If you call to make an appointment, just say that you want to get the coronavirus vaccination together with someone else. Please note: At the moment, you can only make an appointment for the coronavirus vaccination if you have a referral from a treating doctor.

Question 11

Can I get the coronavirus vaccination at the same time as another vaccination?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can. There is no extra risk to your health if you get other vaccinations at the same time or nearly the same time. For example, you can get the coronavirus vaccination at the same time as a flu jab. Or a vaccination against pneumococcus.

Note: At the GGD, you can only get the COVID-19 vaccination. If you want to get other vaccinations at the same time, you also need to make an appointment with your GP or another organisation that offers those vaccinations.

Are there medical reasons not to get the coronavirus vaccination?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes it is better for your health not to get a coronavirus vaccination, or not right now. For example, if you have a fever on the day of the vaccination. Or if you need to have surgery under anaesthetic. Or if you had a serious side effect after a coronavirus vaccination before. Are you not sure if it is wise to get the coronavirus vaccination now? Then talk to your doctor.

I am hesitant because I don’t think I need a coronavirus vaccination.

Accepted Answer

Did a doctor refer you for the coronavirus vaccination? It can sometimes be wise to get an extra coronavirus vaccination. Maybe your health is not very good, or maybe you take medicine. That sometimes means you build up less immunity after a coronavirus vaccination. Or that you are not protected for as long as other people. If you have a referral then there is a reason why your doctor wants to protect you from coronavirus.

Can my child get the coronavirus vaccination?

Accepted Answer

Your child can get a coronavirus vaccination at the GGD. You need a referral for this from a doctor. This applies to children and young people aged 6 months to 17 years. They may need a coronavirus vaccination if they have an extra risk of becoming seriously ill from coronavirus. Even if they have already had a coronavirus vaccination or have been ill with coronavirus before. Call 0800-7070 to make an appointment.

Question 15

May my child get the coronavirus vaccination if the other parent has not given permission?

Accepted Answer

No. All the parents or carers must give permission for the vaccination. This applies to children aged 5 to 11. What if one parent comes to the vaccination centre with the child? Then the GGD employee will ask if both parents have given permission. Have they not both given permission? Then your child will not get a coronavirus vaccination.

I got a letter, email or text message calling me up for a coronavirus vaccination. Is that possible?

Accepted Answer

No, that is not possible. No one is getting a letter, email or text message calling them up for a coronavirus vaccination at the moment. Have you been referred by your doctor? Then you will still not be called up by letter, email or text message. You can call to make a coronavirus vaccination appointment. Have you made an appointment? You will only get an email to confirm the appointment if you have done that. You will get a text message with a reminder 48 hours before the vaccination appointment.

Please note: The coronavirus vaccination at the GGD is always free. You do not have to pay. Does the email or text message talk about paying? Or does it say you have to click on a banking website? Then do not click on anything! And throw away the email or text at once. The email or text is definitely not from the GGD. What do I have to do before I come to the vaccination appointment?

You have to do a few things before the vaccination appointment. You can read about this below:

Make sure we can reach your upper arm easily. Wear clothes that make this easy. For example a sleeveless undershirt or a loose T-shirt.

Bring the email about your vaccination appointment with you to the appointment. You can show it on your phone. You do not need to print it.

Fill in the questionnaire about your health. before the appointment. Bring the completed questionnaire with you to your appointment.

Have you received a referral letter from your doctor or other information about the coronavirus vaccination? Then bring that with you too.

Does your child have an appointment? And is your child aged under 16? Then at least one parent or carer must come with your child. At the vaccination location we ask if both parents or carers give permission for your child’s coronavirus vaccination.

What do I have to do at the vaccination location?

You can read below about what happens at the vaccination appointment. The appointment takes about 30 minutes. Make sure you arrive on time. But do not arrive more than 5 minutes before your appointment.

When you arrive at the vaccination location, you will be welcomed by a GGD staff member, and you will first need to show the letter from the RIVM or the email about your vaccination appointment. You also need to show your valid passport, ID card, driving licence, or residence permit.

After that, you go to the next GGD staff member.

You answer a number of questions about your health. And you show the questionnaire about your health that you have filled in. It is possible that you will have a talk with a doctor or nurse.

Then you get the vaccination.

The advice is to sit and wait for fifteen minutes. You may need aftercare.

Why do I have to fill in the questionnaire about my health?

Accepted Answer

We use the questionnaire to decide, for example, if you can get the coronavirus vaccination on the day of your appointment. Or if there is anything special we need to know when we give the vaccination. In certain situations, it is better to get the coronavirus vaccination some other time. That is why the GGD does one last check before you get the vaccination. So fill in the questionnaire before your appointment. And bring it with you to the appointment. Can you not print the questionnaire? You can also fill it in at the vaccination location.

Question 20

I have a cold. Can I come to the appointment to get the coronavirus vaccination?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can get the coronavirus vaccination even if you have a cold. But wear a face mask over your mouth and nose that is safe to wear if you have a cold. Do you also have a fever (38 degrees Celsius or more) with the cold? Then you can’t go to the appointment. Make a new appointment when you no longer have a fever.

Have you just had coronavirus and have you been referred by your doctor for an extra coronavirus vaccination?

Accepted Answer

Talk to your treating doctor to see if you should go ahead with the appointment for the coronavirus vaccination when you have just had coronavirus. It is safe to get the coronavirus vaccination. But the vaccination may not give much extra protection. Having coronavirus makes you more immune to the virus.

What should I do if I’m afraid of needles?

1 in 5 people in the Netherlands is a little to very afraid of needles. Are you also afraid? Then tell a GGD employee at the vaccination location. Experienced people work at the GGD who can help if someone is afraid. You may not like talking about your fear of needles, but it is important so that you can be helped.

Did you make an appointment for the coronavirus vaccination by phone or online, but not get an email confirmation? Check if the email is in your ‘junk mail’ or ‘spam’ folder. What vaccine will I get?

Accepted Answer

You will get the newest mRNA vaccine. The vaccine has been adapted to the way the coronavirus has developed. The vaccine is safe and protects you well against getting seriously ill from coronavirus. For more information go to this RIVM website page.

Have you made an appointment for a coronavirus vaccination with a different vaccine than the mRNA vaccine? Then you will get the vaccine you have an appointment for.

Question 27

How do I know if a coronavirus vaccination is safe?

A vaccine may only be used if it has been approved. In the Netherlands this is done by the Medicines Evaluation Board (CBG). They assess the vaccines. They are very critical about this because your health is the most important thing. Even after vaccines have been approved, their effectiveness is closely watched. This is done in the Netherlands but also in other European countries. This means we quickly find out the results of new studies.

Have you given permission to share your information with the RIVM? For more information, see this page on the RIVM website. You can find the date of the vaccination appointment there. And you can find more information about the vaccine. For example, the name of the vaccine or the number of the vaccine.

Question 29

Can I decide myself if I want to give permission for data about my coronavirus vaccination to be stored at RIVM?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can decide yourself if you want to give permission for RIVM to store data about your coronavirus vaccination. You do this when you fill in the health questionnaire. What if you do not give permission? Then the RIVM will not store your data. If you do not give your consent to share your data with the RIVM, you will not receive a letter next year with an appointment for your COVID-19 vaccination. Instead, you will receive a general letter inviting you to make an appointment yourself. So no appointment will be made for you. You will have to do that yourself.

Question 30

Can the coronavirus vaccination be put on my Yellow Card?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Some GGDs will also put your coronavirus vaccination on your Yellow Card (ICVP) for you. They only do this if the GGD gave you your vaccination.

Please note: Not all GGDs do this. But you can always ask the GGD that gave you your vaccination for a proof of vaccination. You can keep the proof of vaccination in your Yellow Card yourself.
